Fall vs. Summer Onions!

July 11, 2022

Did you know? Growing seasons and regions can change the appearance of onions! 🧅

Fall/winter onions - are also known as "storage onions". These onions are easy to recognize by their multiple layers of thick, richly colored outer skins. Storage onions are also lower in water content, resulting in a much longer shelf-life. Fall/winter onions are available from August - May.

Spring/summer onions - are identified by their thin, much lighter-colored outer skins. These onions are typically higher in water content, which shortens their shelf-life and makes them more susceptible to bruising – handle with care! Spring/summer onions are available from March through August.

Both are equally delicious! 😊
